Isn't it interesting how we cherish traditions, yet are constantly looking for items that are "new and improved"? That is the struggle that the Loretto Alumnae Association has faced these past few years. We love the traditions of our Loretto Schools, established by the former students, teachers and principals. Our members seek to relive these traditions with each other. However, on many occasions we wondered how can we reach today's modern (and very busy) woman. Just recently, I was reading previous copies of the Constitution of the Loretto Alumnae Association. A title for one of the executive members was "Tea Convenor". Her duties were to "invite members of good standing to pour tea and to assist at said tea". The Alumnae had purchased a silver service for this specific reason. At the time, this must have been a cherished position and a wonderful tradition. Today, in the world of instant everything, it brings us a smile and a "how quaint" to our lips. The present constitution has eliminated this position, and we take turns bringing the bag of cookies. The foundation for a new tradition has begun (though not nearly as formal).

What new traditions can we look forward to in the coming years? A new website www.lorettoalumnae.ca, communication via e-mail, fewer printed newsletters, events that encompass different interests are just some of the areas that the Alumnae would like to continue to pursue. But new traditions can't be built on ideas alone. Members of the Association run it on behalf of the membership. Inform friends, visit our website, and don't forget to renew your membership. Let us know which new traditions we can start together, and which you will help us maintain.
